Why doodles?

Well, it was a classic case of a throw away comment over lunch! Roberta Tweedy from the Neurofibromatosis Association and myself had met to talk about how the two charities might work together to increase the support for their work and raise awareness of two relatively unknown or understood medical conditions.

Roberta said she had an idea that if we could come up with a simple, easy to take part in event that only cost £1, involved celebrities, paper and pens then we might be onto a winner. And we thought, 'Yeah, as if that's going to work!'

But we found ourselves mulling over the idea, trying to work out how we could turn it into a fundraising event and suddenly hit upon the idea of doodling! After all, everyone doodles or can doodle. It doesn't require any special artistic skill, anyone of any age can do it. Just look at the overall winners from 2005 (Mark Goodstone, aged nine) and 2007 (Chris Lloyd, aged 61!).

To help promote National Doodle Day we decided to recruit celebrities to our cause. To date, over 750 celebrities have doodled in support of National Doodle Day

The rest, as they say, is history!

So why not help us to raise even more much needed funds for people affected by epilepsy and neurofibromatosis and get doodling in 2007! Watch this space and get ready to start!
